A letter written by the Dean of Armagh to ?? It is thought that Quartermaster Ahmuty may be Thomas (who married Isabella Gordon) the son of James’ first cousin Samuel of Brienstown (who married Mary King).

“Dear Sir                                                                        Weybridge in Surrey  June 24th, 1745

As my affairs call me to Ireland abut the (?) better end of summer, where my Interests in Lord Chesterfield will hold me all the next winter, I should be glad to say something, that may be depended on, to the father of Quartermaster Ahmuty on the Prospects we have of getting his son into Ranck, which he so much desires; and therefore must now press you the more to write to Colonel Cochran to consent to some terms by which it may be effected, as my stay in England is drawing near to an end.

The means, you know, we had in view, were either the acceptance of Mr Shrimpton of Barrel’s in his room or admitting him 2nd Lieut in the Regiment wherein he now serves; either of theses would be pleasing to us, tho’, I must own, I  would Charge about it, provided the whole come in the compass of fifty pounds.  My Respect to Mr Lloyd, who, I hope is not unmindful of me.

                        I am Sir,

                                        Your faithful humble servant

                                                        Ja: Auchmuty
