Arthur Auchmuty XE "Auchmuty:Arthur of Shervogne" , of Shervogne, Surgeon, fifth and youngest son of Thomas Auchmuty of Brienstown and his wife Dorcas Townley

 

Dublin pedigree: “Arthur Auchmuty of Shervoge Co Longford, Surgeon, mentioned in his father’s will, dat 24th April 1742 pr’d 1 Dec 1749 == Mary Lawder only dau and heiress of James Lawder of Kilmore Co Roscommon.”

 

Thomas Gordon Auchmuty p 35:-  Arthur a Physician living at the Castle of Sharvogne Co Longford

              

Helena Forbes Auchmuty:  “Arthur the fourth son was a physician, remarkably skillful, he took his diploma in Scotland, travelled a good deal, attended hospitals in France and wrote out many observations on Surgery and Physic in French.  He married Mary Lauder, a beautiful woman she lived in the County of Roscommon at Kilmore.  She had many children, three of whom lived Thomas, Elisabeth, and Deborah.”

Thomas Gordon Auchmuty p65:   “Will of Dr Arthur Ahmuty of Sharvogne dated 24 Apr 1742 proved before Rev’d Sam Spar 1st Dec 1749 seven years after

in presence of Thos Taylor Arch’d Arsagh,   Margaret Boyce,   John Paynter

He Dr A had one son Thos 4 Daurs Dorcas Deborah Eliz’h and Mary.”

 

again Thomas Gordon Auchmuty pp 35, 36:  “Arthur ……. was educated as a Surgeon and Physician and studied at the Hotel Dieu at Paris in his day the Great School of Physic and Surgery he married Mary Lauder contract of marriage dated 15 Ap. 1732, daughter of  James Lauder of Kilmore in Co Roscommon through whom the Estate of Kilmore has fallen to the grandson of James Lauder by Ar Ahmuty - their issue was Thomas a Wine Merchant in Dublin bound to his uncle Townley, James I believe in the Revenue, a daughter Deborah married to Wm Bignall of Dublin Atty (Attorney) another Elizabeth married to Thomas Dean by whom she had two sons, Ar and Edwd and one daughter Sydney married Croftons.  …….  Arthur elder son of this Thomas by Judith Ahmuty daughter of Samuel Ahmuty of Brienstown eldest of the five sons of first Thomas, inherits and lives at the Estate of Kilmore in Co Roscommon.  …….  Mary Lauder wife of Ar Ahmuty of Shervogne was daughter of James Lauder of Kilmore by a former wife he married 2ndly Dorcas Townley widow of Thomas Ahmuty”

 

Arthur married Mary Lawder daughter of his mother’s second husband James Lawder and had one son and three or four daughters, Thomas, Deborah, Elizabeth and Mary and perhaps a Dorcas.

“Attestation by Deborah Ahmuty dated 16th August 1757

                            Know all men by these presents that Whereas my father Arthur Ahmuty Surgn..made his last Will and Testament in writing bearing Date the twentyfourth day of April One thousand Seven hundred and forty two, and amongst Others Bequeathed the whole or greater part of his substance and Estate to Thomas Ahmuty his Eldest son, and to me Deborah Ahmuty and Ellisabeth Ahmuty his two daughters to be equally divided betwixt us, and of his said Will appointe Samuel Ahmuty Esqre. one of his executors who solely tooke upon him the burthen and Execution of the said Will - And Whereas I the said Deborah Ahmuty have attained my full age of twentyone years, And Whereas the said Samuel Ahmuty hath made up an accoumpt with me the said Deborah Ahmuty of all moneys received and paid by the sd. Samuel, and of all transactions in pursuance of the said Executorship and trust, and hath fully satisfied contented & paid me the Ballance of such accoumpts and full proporcion which came to my share of my said Fathers Assetts Effects and Estate, Now Know ye, that I the said Deborah Ahmuty being fully satisfied in the ?Promisses have remised released and for ever quitt Claimed, and by these presents Do remise release and for ever quitt etc. to the said Samuel Ahmuty his Heirs  Exors. and Admrs. all reconings & Accompts Sum and Sums of money by him had or received in pursuance of the said trust or by means of his being Executor to the said Arthur Ahmuty as afforesaid  and also off and from all other reconings accoumpts and Demands whatsoever on Account of the said last Will Bequest or otherwise whatsoever from the beginning of the world to the day of the Date of these Presents, In Wittness whereof I have to these presence Sett my hand and affixed my Sale this sixteenth Day of August - One thousand and Seven hundred and fifty Seven   [signed] Deborah Ahmuty

                Witnessed by Thomas Ahmuty and another [illegible]”

ALICIA-JANE (1069), m. 27 Aug. 1822, to Lieut. Robert Ross Auchmuty (89), R.N.

JUDITH-MARCELLA (159), m. 21 Sept. 1842, to Horatio Nelson Lawder, Esq.

Dr. Auchmuty (93) is a magistrate for the counties of Roscommon and Leitrim.

Lineage.

ARTHUR AUCHMUTY (23), M.D., fifth son of Thomas Achmuty (5), Esq. of Brianstown, co. Longford, who d. in 1712, by Dorcas, his wife, dau. of Samuel Towneley, Esq. of Moygne Hall, co. Cavan, m. Mary, dau. and eventually sole heir of James Lawder, Esq. of Kilmore, co. Roscommon, and had, with two daus.,

Elizabeth (48),

a son, THOMAS AUCHMUTY (50), Esq. of Dublin, who m. 17 Nov. 1757, his cousin Judith (53), dau. of Samuel Achmuty (25), of Brianstown, Esq., and had two sons,

JAMES (90), who m. Marcella, dau. of James Lawder Kelly, Esq., of Churchborough, co. Roscommon, but d. s. p.
