Passenger and Immigrations Lists Index 1984 Supplement Halifax Victualling List 1750 records that John Ahmuty, Eunice Ahmuty and Mary Ahmuty were in Nova Scotia in 1750.

More about John of Nova Scotia and his family will be written in Section VI

Possible that the will dated 21 Oct 1750 in Halifax is the will of this John (35). I think rank of lieutenant is consistent with him being a quartermaster but need someone with good knowledge to confirm. Text above says he 'was killed' in service abroad: he could have been posted to Halifax and retired there on half pay, so still 'in service'; 'killed', however, seems less likely than 'died' - especially as he had time to write a will, so doubt remains. He leaves a house in Halifax to his dear wife, but proceeds to say that if needed to pay his debts, it should be sold. That is consistent with the wife not living in the house, i.e. still being in Ireland. If all that is accepted as a working premise, then his wife is Esther, and she was left 'in Ireland with two sons and a daughter'. It sounds like he had some sort of liaison with Eunis Locke - he left her another house, and it is not to be sold to pay his debts, and she is executor and resides in Halifax, and she is on the victualling list as Eunice Ahmuty. The 'god daughter' Mary Auchmuty Locke (1077) sounds likely to be his daughter by Mrs Eunis Locke, widow.
