Before his marriage in 1812 to Caroline Warren, the records show John had had a number of children. Since the name of the mother of each is not given they were perhaps born out of wedlock.

- Mary Ann Ahmuty daughter of J Ahmuty of the civil service
John and his wife Caroline had two sons and two daughters:
- East India Register: “Birth 20 Oct 1814 the lady of John Ahmuty Esq. of a still born child”
