Transcription:

 

A memorial of an indented deed or article bearing date the tenth day of June one thousand seven hundred and eighty and made between

Allice Briggs of Cappa in the county of Galway widow of Jonathan Briggs of Cappa aforesaid deceased and John Briggs of Cappa aforesaid second son of the said Jonathan of the first part and

Mary Grome Jane Grome and Frederick Grome all of Mayarwood in the said county of the second part

whereby the said Allice Briggs in considn of a marriage portion of two hundred pounds sterling paid or secured to be paid to the said John Briggs by the said Mary Grome

and for and in considn of the sum of five shillings ster also paid to the said Allice

the said Allice hath granted bargained sold and released unto the said Frederick Grome as trustee only for the said John Briggs and Jane Grome in his actual possession then being by force of the statute for transferrring uses into possion

all that one half or moiety of the lands of Skeanan and Cappa in the county of Galway during the lives in the leases thereof respectively named and for every renewal to be had thereof subject to the rents and covenants in the said recited indentures of lease contained as also the one moiety or half of the stock upon the said lands

upon the several trusts in the first recited indenture contained

and by which said deed the said John Briggs did covenant with the said Frederick Grome that in case the said Jane Grome should survive the said John Briggs and that he should die without issue begotten on the body of the said Jane

then that the said Jane shall be intitled unto one half of the said John’s personal effects as her own sole property

and that she shall have during her natural life half the lands of Cappa with half the household furnature [sic]

as also half the lands of Skeanan aforesaid

or any other lands which the said John shall die seized or possesssed of

and also that the said Jane shall hold and enjoy the house garden and offices on the lands of Cappa aforesaid during her natural life

which said deed is witnessed by Thomas Woods of Garbally in the Kings county gent, William Palliser and John Palliser both of Drim in the county of Galway gent

and this memorial is witnessed by the said Wm Palliser and James White of Loughrea in said county of Galway gent
