Note: the person writing this memorial had several spelling inconsistencies (e.g. Witstone, Whitstone, Whitestone) plus several repetitions of words.   Ballynasloe, Co Roscommon, is most likely the same as Ballinasloe, Co Galway - it was near the boundary (EN email 25 Jun 2009).

Transcription:

A memorial of an indre of lease dated the 7th of February 1798 and made between

William Pilkington of the castle near Ballynasloe in the county of Roscommon gent of the one part and

Ann Witstone [sic] of the city of Dublin widow of the other part

whereby the said William demised granted set and to farm set unto the said Ann Whitstone in her actual posson then being and to her heirs exors admors and assigns all that and those the dwelling house and concerns called the castle situate near the bridge of Ballynasloe aforesaid according as the same area then enclosed and surrounded by the deep ditch and old garrison wall thereunto belonging and in full large and ample manner as the said William then held and enjoyed the same

together with a free and sufficient passage and at all times and seasons during the continuance of said demise for said Ann her heirs exors admors and assigns for her and their servants labourers and attendants with their carts carrs carriages horses carttle and effects to pass and repass from the high road adjoining said demised premes to the bridge and gateway leading into the rere thereof which said demised premes are situate lying and being near the bridge of Ballynasloe in the county of Roscommon aforesaid

To hold the said premes in which are included the said demised premes unto said Ann her heirs exors admors admistrs and assigns from the first day of May then next ensuing in the lives of Luke Whitestone the only son of Elizabeth Whitestone and Margt & Ann Whitestone the first and second daughters of said Ann and the life of the survivors and survivor of them

and during the further term and time of thirty one years to commence on & be computed from the first day of November or first day of May which ever shall sooner happen after the expiration and decease of said three lives

from thenceforth fully to be completed and ended

at the yearly rent of £32 str

which said lease as to the execution thereof by the said parties is witnessed by John Kelly of Liskelly in the county of Galway gent and Thomas Davies of Ballynaster in said county gent and this memorial as to the execution thereof by the said Ann Whitestone is witnessed by the said Thomas Davies & by William North of Northbrook in said county gent
